At FIN – Funky Interior, we are proud to offer a selection of  Kofod Larsen’s iconic designs as part of our curated collection of mid-century modern furniture. He is one of our ‘all-time greats’ and we love all of his designs.

Ib Kofod Larsen

Ib Kofod-Larsen was a Danish furniture designer who rose to prominence in the mid-20th century. Born in 1921, Kofod-Larsen studied at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen, and later worked for a number of prestigious Danish furniture manufacturers, including Faarup Møbelfabrik and Christensen & Larsen.

Kofod-Larsen's designs were characterized by their sleek lines, elegant curves, and attention to detail. He was particularly known for his use of high-quality materials, such as teak, rosewood, and leather, which gave his pieces a timeless quality that still resonates today.

One of Kofod-Larsen's most famous designs is the Penguin Chair, which he designed in 1953. The chair's distinctive shape, which resembles a penguin, is created by its curved backrest and armrests, which give it a sense of movement and fluidity. The Penguin Chair was an instant success, and has since become an iconic piece of mid-century design.

Another notable Kofod-Larsen design is the Elizabeth Chair, which he designed in 1956. The chair's elegant, wing-shaped backrest and tapered legs give it a sense of lightness and grace, while its deep, plush seat provides the ultimate in comfort. The Elizabeth Chair is still produced today by the Danish furniture manufacturer Brdr. Petersen, and is considered a classic of mid-century design.

We really love all his design, but Funky Interior has a special taste for his sideboards like the FA66 or the FA81.
Even today his designs are considered top quality craftmanship.
